Bernard is a trusted town planning and commercial development adviser to a wide range of corporate and government clients in Victoria, bringing 40 years of experience to his work. BMDA clients value the quality of Bernard’s strategic counsel, commercial expertise and responsive service delivery.

Bernard’s practice works in a wide range of sectors but particularly in retail, commercial and mixed use development and activity centre planning. Bernard is frequently invited as a speaker to industry forums and has participated on numerous ministerial and government advisory panels, including the Metropolitan Planning Strategy and Plan Melbourne Refresh.

Bernard worked for an extended period with the Gandel Group of Companies and then Colonial First State Property Management. This involved the acquisition, planning and development of retail centres across Australia and New Zealand, including the expansion of Chadstone, Bayside and Northland Shopping Centres in Victoria, Chatswood Chase (NSW), Brisbane Myer Centre (Qld), Elizabeth (SA) and Rockingham (WA).

Bernard’s industry association experience includes:

-     board member of the Victorian Planning and Environmental Law Association

-     chair, Property Council Planning Committee (Vic)

-     president of the Planning Institute of Australia (Vic)

Bernard is also a Greenstar Accredited Professional. In his downtime, Bernard is a regular swimmer and cyclist and a keen supporter of the arts.
